Man left for dead in storm drain

A man is in a critical condition after being found assaulted outside a restaurant in Nigel, Gauteng paramedics said on Saturday.
"A man is in his 40s is fighting for his life in a Johannesburg hospital after he was assaulted in the Nigel area this morning at around 11.30am," said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.
Paramedics pulled the man from a storm drain where he had been left for dead.
"They found that he suffered a severe head injury as well as near drowning symptoms," said Botha.
The man was treated on scene before being airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke hospital.
Police are investigating the incident as an assault.
