Hair-raising orders

December 17, 2009 Edition 2

SEOUL: A campaign in communist North Korea against untidy and foreign hairstyles has been launched on the orders of leader Kim Jong-il, a South Korean welfare group says.

The official media said last month that men should keep their hair short and women should have it tied up. The order says that women should not wear skirts above the knee, tight trousers or any garment that revealed the body's contours. - Sapa-AFP
